How is my gift used? After donation, your volunteered blood is separated into three components (plasma, platelets, and red cells). These components are then transfused to a patient who may need either a combination of these components or a single component. This is how your donation can save up to three lives!
Volunteer donors, like you, supply 100 percent of the blood used and Bloodworks NW donations are distributed to over 70 hospitals and clinics in western Washington, including:
- Olympic Medical Center: approximately 3,500 blood components from PSBC Donors are transfused annually at OMC (~300/month)
- Naval Hospital Bremerton, Madigan Army Medical Center and VA Puget Sound: approximately 10,000 blood components from PSBC Donors are transfused annually for our local active duty military and veterans (~800/month)
- Harrison Medical: approximately 12,000 blood components from PSBC Donors are transfused annually at Harrison (~1000/month)
